New bike help!

Postby ketalung » Fri May 24, 2013 21:49 pm

Hi!

I was doing some research on buying a new bike so thought I'd pick some more experienced brains!
I've narrowed it down to a Specialized Crosstrail Disc 2013 hybrid, cannondale quick 4 2013 hybrid or a Boardman hybrid comp.

I'm going to order the first two in to the local shop so I can try them, then I'll try the Boardman at Halfords.

My main use is 80% around the city roads and then 20% on park paths, tow paths etc.

I know it's a bit vague but any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Not sure of the cannondale, but the Boardman means you have to play halfords roulette with the bike and mechanic quality. The spesh is ok, but for 50quid more you get the sport with better gearing, lockout fork and hydraulic discs.

Seconded - it can be done but best to get them on a quiet, dry evening when the car park is empty-ish and you stand a chance of blagging it (assuming they have your size to try, of course...) Having said that I had a very helpful guy at Cambridge Halfords who took 15 minutes to help me set-up the bike to my size and let me ping it around the carpark in drizzle, so there are good ones out there.

I hope they will let me, I really need to see how it feels! I mean, I test-drove my car when I bought it!

I had a look at cycle-cross after the mention, I think maybe out of my price range a little.

The guy in the shop said the cannondale quick 4 is just a road bike with flat bars, the frame is set up for road and the lack of spokes make the wheel fragile for incidents on park tracks etc.
