Cube Peloton Pro 2013 vs Specialized Allez Elite 2014 Help!

Postby justinbuckley » Mon Aug 19, 2013 17:21 pm

Hi all, I am going to purchase one of these bikes in the next week (unless something at Eurocycle next week catches my eye) and I'm trying to find a good reason (besides aesthetics) to go with one or the other. Both have the Tiagra group set. Specs are below. As far as the frame quality goes, I'd like to get good bang for the buck there as I will upgrade it in the future but I couldn't find any reviews online on the frames. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Specialized Allez every time. Fantastic proven frame, I have a 2011 model which I use as a trainer, it gets lots of abuse, and works well in all conditions. Upgrade as you go along for added longevity.
Why not look at a 2013MY at a discount, I saved £200 on mine by going for a recently superseded model.
If you go for the Cube, (presumably for perceived better spec), make sure you size up as they are notoriously small sized.

Could you clarify this statement? You mean that the Cube has a perceived better spec but is actually an inferior bike? As for the size I can attest to that, I rode one the other day, I am 6 ft 2 and usually go with a 55 or 56 but needed to go up to 60 on the Cube.

The 2014 Specialized are only out this week or so and I don't think the 2013 are out yet. The 2014 is actually 50 quid cheaper than the 2013 out of the gate.

Yes, it's a triple, and to be honest I don't think I would use the extra gears. Most of the time I would be using it on flatter terrain (Florida).

I've got a triple cx bike - came with 32-11 cassette. Wow. What a gap between cogs on the cassette - didn't need that! Never used the inner chain ring on the road (it's my wet/winter commute bike) so replaced the cassette with a 23-11 (it's 9 speed) much closer spacings and I actually have a use for the inner chainring on the steeper climbs - or when I'm being lazy ;)
