Dalbeattie vs Dalby

Postby HaydenJ » Wed Sep 25, 2013 19:27 pm

Evening all,

Recently got back from a trip to Dalbeattie and loved the trails up there,im thinking of doing Dalby next as it is a lot closer to home (Leeds) and 1000 x better than Sherwood from what I'm told.

Has anyone done the two already and if so how could you compare them on technicality, ascends, descends, features, length, fitness?

Cheers,

Hayden

dalby is very dull imo XC fitness stuff yes with a couple of features on the black world cup route, apart from that it's very undulating terrain wise, but you need a good engine to get around it

I aint done Dalbeattie but have done Balblair and Laggan up in Scotland,to put it simple id say the trail centres up there are like Cinderella when she gets to the ball, where as Dalby is like her ugly sisters.

Now dont get me wrong,Dalby has improved over the last year due to improvements in the trail, but its just full of braking bumps and needs a hell of a lot of money putting back into it,considering it costs £7 per car to use the toll road during the summer, you would think some of this would be put back into the trails rather then it being upto peeps doing it for free(SingletrAction).IMO a trail centre should have technical features linked with fast flowing sections, which the red route at Dalby did when first opened.

I've ridden both durng my travels and the stanes are by far the best riding I've had at a trail centre. That said it all comes down to trying somewhere else, the distance and if you want to ride or spend 3 hours each way in a car.

My stane trips have always been in conjunction with work so the drive isn't an issue, I'd be there (or thereabouts) anyway but if it came down to a days riding say at a weekend then I'd pick the option that gave me the most saddle time.

Dalby's pretty good anyway so dont worry about wasting a day.

So it's OK for a 2 hour drive but you wouldn't want to spend a weekend there?

Need to move to Dumfries I think!

gonna try give Dalby a go next month, at least I can say I've done it.

It's worth it to say you've done it, getting round it fast without stopping is the real test and makes it fun. There are some good sections but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back to it.

I honestly thought both of them were decidedly average, not worth the effort IMO. Mabie, Ae and Kirroughtree are better Stanes and I'd go to Hamsterley rather than Dalby.
