Winter Tyres

Postby ktm phil » Wed Sep 25, 2013 20:27 pm

We ride mostly in East Anglia, so the going is loamy mud trails, farm tracks, footpaths and bridleways. Punctures are a constant problem due to hawthorns. I ride a Cube AMS 130 SLT 2012

So, I'm after a good tyre that can handle the winter slop, what would you recommend?

I'm also interested to hear peoples experience of reducing punctures. So far I've tried slime tubes, ordinary tubes and heavy duty tubes (that are much thicker around the outer). These were the most effective, but are VERY heavy.

For hawthornes have you tried the slime protective strips? they are pretty much 100% against thorns, I've never found thicker tubes help, just take a little longer to pierce!

Tyres, Maxis Beavers, or the Geax Gato get good reviews and on-one have them cheap right now, light though so probably less thorn protection!
