Roubaix Comp vs Domane 4.3 vs Synapse 3 vs ACE???

Postby rideslidemorzine » Wed Oct 02, 2013 16:15 pm

Hi all, would be grateful for some words of wisdom.

Currently trying to chose between some end of year discount models. I live out in Morzine in the French Alps so all riding tends to be on the hilly side... I've narrowed my search down to a choice of 4 bikes, I'm never going to set the world on fire with my speed so have been looking at comfort more so:

Spec Roubaix Comp (ultegra) down to €2290
'dale Synapse 3 (ultegra) down to €2159
Domane 4.3 (105) down to €1650
Colnago Ace (105) down to €1750

Any thoughts? Unfortunately I'm not in a position where I can take any of them out for test ride so am a little nervous of putting so much money down without trying first. Climbing is a big part of what I do out here (unfortunately!) so any advice as to which of these beasts climbs the best would be great. I like the heritage of the Colnago, the reviews of the 'dale, the look of the Roubaix, and the price of the Trek!

So what do I do??

Thanks,

Jon

Not sure there's much of a difference

Both the domane and the roubaix with ultegra will weigh about 8.5 kg and be nice and plush to ride

The 105 bikes will be very similar but a few hundred Grammes heavier.

I have had 3 roubaixs and find the lower end models a touch overpriced and overweight for the spec.

None of them are bad bikes, but I'd say the domane may just edge it.

Thanks for that, just to throw another in to the mix - a Time First 105 - coming in around €2100...

Would I be right in thinking that with the Time & Colnago you're paying for a better frame, or are these brands both just cashing in on their history a bit?
