Need your advice, Ibis VS Lapierre

Postby Morters » Sat Oct 05, 2013 12:13 pm

Hi all,
I'm an AM rider for several years for now, used to ride on 29er TREK rumblefish, but now I want to change back to 26..
I also want to upgrade my upgrade my ride to something more aggressive.
For that I got several options, and I really dont know what to choose from..
On one hand I have the IBIS Mojo HD, my dream bike, I think they are one of the best AM bikes I can get, they are full carbon, very light and I talked to people rode it, and they say this is something unforgettable..
On the other hand, I have the LapierreSpicy (Probably the 316 with change of tyers and brakes), they are aggressive as the Ibis (Maybe more?), and are cheaper by far.. both have 160mm front.

What would you choose? (What if I'll add in the YETI SB 66)

Thank you for your reply!

The Ibis
or the Nukeproof Mega AM frame.. take the difference between the mega frame and ibis and go for an awesome custom build

Can't really compare a mega to the HD! Good as the HD is IMO it's not without it's flaws. The suspension is top class, no doubt about it, but I've found it short in top tube and was rather steep head angle wise. Things have moved on and IMO the HD is a little dated. The new HD-R is effectively a lighter version of the same frame so doesn't really solve any of the issues I have with the standard HD. It's still a very good bike, but it's not perfect.

Might be worth looking at the Yeti SB66C and Santa Cruz Bronson. If I was looking for a replacement for my HD now it'd probably be the Bronson.

I've looked into the Nukeproof Mega, and they look good.. The HDR Costs so much ,more and Im not sure if it worth the price.. anyway, should I consider getting the Mega pro? It looks way more aggressive then the comp

What is your budget? You're looking at bikes wildly different in price!

An alloy Bronson or SB66 would fit your budget. The spec will be solid but nothing spectacular, but the frames are worth upgrading the components on over time

between these I'll prefer the Sb66, but if I put them next to the Ibis Mojo HD... Im getting confused.
So Ibis Mojo HD or SB66? (Im interested in Frame only)

Thank you

Personally I'd get neither, like Lawman said the ibis isn't as agressive as you may think but then again I'm not sure on the exact use
The Yeti is slightly more aggressive (Jared Graves raced DH on it with a 180mm fox 36 and came 3rd)
But I've heard a lot about how the pivot is high maintainence

I suggested the Nukeproof Mega AM as it's a lot cheaper but has good reviews and you can spend more on the spec as opposed to the frame

I mean there's also brands like Intense, Pivot, Devinci, Transition that do agressive bikes not to mention the Santa Cruz

Are you talking 4000USD for just the frame?

Hi ej2320,
thank you for your reply,
Im not looking for DH bike, but a bike light enough that I'll be able riding uphill, and strong enough that I'll be able to speed through the downhill.
Remember im talking about the HD, not the SL... I have to think about the Nukeproof, and getting some more reviews about it...

btw 4000 usd for the whole bike. and as for the nukeproof, the frome costs more then the HD.. (2400 Vs 2200)

If I had that sort of cash to drop on a new bike the 2 that lawman mentions would be right at the top of my list that's for sure

I would go for the Nukeproof Mega. It may not be pretty but it rides incredibly well, it even climbs well.

Oh really.. The Nukeproof would be by far the cheapest in the UK, shame about the exchange rates

Oh no, I mean cheap in terms of the fact it's below 2000USD
Either way.. I'm wishing I'd demoed the Mega AM now after seeing the reviews.. But I bet my frame will be epic when it arrives

If your looking frame only, have a think about the Santa Cruz nomad. Ideally in carbon if you can stretch to it. Ticks all the boxes you are looking at and personally I think it's a better bike than the bronson

Thank you all for your help!
I decided to get MojoHD, and I just bought one for 2000USD.
now Im looking for parts to go along with it, especialy front fork.
right know Im thinking of either RockShox Pike RCT3 160mm (dual air), or the 34/36 Fox float 160mm.
Still have to decide which is better...

Thank you very much!

BTW!! I am Morters, I just logged in using Facebook..

I'd go for the Pike
getting one for my build and it's cheaper than the fox

Thanks, but I think I'll go with the Marzocchi 55 RC3 EVO..
I know its 170mm and its way heavier (~2.5Kg), but I think this is better option for my riding type.
Im afraid the pike may be a little soft..
