Garmin needs a mention

Postby Fatcat1974 » Thu Oct 17, 2013 12:11 pm

When my wife asked what was making a knocking in the tumble dryer this morning, I thought she was checking and forgot about it, until...

about an hour later, I noticed that my Garmin 810 wasn't on my desk. Then I remembered putting it in the pocket of my baggies on Tuesday...aaarrrrg! I couldn't believe what I'd done. I was almost in tears. It was too hot to hold at first and needless to say, wouldn't switch on. Within minutes I had my insurance details in front of me and was on the phone to Madison. But while I was on hold, I decided to press and hold the power switch to see if it'd reset the device. Sure enough, the darned thing booted up and appears to be in perfect order. I'm about to go riding with it.

Relief, joy and amazement, all at once. God knows how hot it gets in a dryer over 90 mins!

Ooh mine could do with cleaning, did you use fabric conditioner too.

That's just silly. It's for cycling so you should never use fabric conditioner - 30º wash with non-bio detergent, every time :D

Sure, but it's the 90 mins in the tumble dryer on full heat that I expected to kill it.

Actually IPX7 rated so immersion for 30 minutes at a depth of 1 meter. so a wash and tumble dry seems pretty good to me!

Have you created a new Strava segment with the data?

Might seem fine now, just wait for the intermittent problems and eventual premature failure caused by water ingress.
