Planet X Ti Pro Road Sram Rival Road Bike

Postby mlgt » Thu Nov 07, 2013 10:54 am

Has anyone got or tried this bike before?

Its titanium and hand built by Van Nicholas with the Planet X badge.

Read some good reviews, but the appeal factor is there for me.

Im currently riding a Mekk Poggio, coming from a Bianchi via norone and an allez to start with so have tried out different riding stances and frame builds.

There is some great reviews on the 2013 Mekks, but this PX caught my eye and has a decent set up for the price.
I would change the wheels as I have a pair of Mavic Ksyrium SL for winter and Rolf Vigor alfas for the summer.#

I currently use the Mekk for commutes and sub 50 mile cycling on weekends, but aim to up this and start doing longer cycles and double this next year.

Look forward to replies.

Thanks in advance.

I have looked at these on line also and I am interested as I am in the market for a new ride.
I like the idea of a fast and smooth ride for longer rides.
Any info anyone has Id be interested in hearing also.

I have owned several titanium framed bikes but my Cannondale Evo is just as comfortable, fitting larger tyres and lower pressure is also a very cheap way to get a comfy ride. :?

Will it take mudguards?
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles

I believe that the Planet- X Ti is identical to the old VN Mistral frame. I'm a big Ti fan. It tends to give a very smooth ride and can at the same time be very responsive. Doesn't corrode and can survive being thrown down the road at 30+ mph. I saw one of the Planet-X Ti bikes recently with a black carbon fork and Krsyium Elites and it looked sweet. The Planet-X branding looked really nice too. What's the warranty like? VN have an exceptional warranty.

I think with the PX bikes compared to the VN, I read that it was a shorter warrenty or something. Cant find the info now.

I think it wont take mudguards, but I will email PX this week and report back.

When you say fitting larger tyres you mean 25 instead of 23?

Checked on the link and it shows as it is not mudflap compatible.

Which means you will need to have a clip on mud guard of some sort.

With VN I think its lifetime whereas PX is 10 years as KJ has shared.

Thoughts?

Personally I'm between this bike and the Genesis Equilibrium Disc. Edging toward the Genesis at the moment simply for the discs + guard fittings. It weighs more but would be using more as a winter trainer/rainy days bike. If I was buying a bike for my main ride I would get the Planet X. Looks great, great frame, good groupset... Also the Planet X is great value, especially when compared other similar brands such as Lynskey. Choices, choices!

Indeed choices. I do like the idea of being able to fit guards.

However I do prefer the look of the PX bike. its very nice to look at and good set up. I think I will put my money where my mouth is and place an order later next year.

Currently enjoying my Mekk, but if I compare the price vs set up on both bikes. The only big difference is the frame and group set up.

Best start saving and then place my bike for sale in March next year :)
