Turbo setup advice please

Postby littledove44 » Thu Jan 02, 2014 23:01 pm

Finally got my spare wheel sorted for using on the turbo. I understand I need to keep the setup the same to get consistency between sessions.

I have a new tire, with a 23mm mavic tyre and I pumped it to 100 psi.
The turbo on my Cycleops fluid pro is then pushed up against the tyre and the lever closed to exert pressure.
I definitely felt a bit of slipping occasionally.

Should I decrease the tyre pressure, increase the lever pressure, both, or neither?

Help please.
Thanks.

If only it were that simple.

The unit supplied now does not have that design rotary knob for tightening against the wheel. It has a lever that turns 90 degrees for setup and thereafter just up and down. The manual doesn't help with my problem.

Try setting off in a lower gear and build up the speed, I find this helps with the slippage problem. I have a turbo specific tyre on and it is still possible to get some slippage if you apply power from the off, your tyre pressure seems OK IME. :)

I have same turbo.

I usually inflate to 100psi, then when clamping move the mechanism till it's just touching the tyre (tyre can still turn) then engage the clamp. Works for me with normal and turbo specific tyres.

Thanks.

I have now had feedback from the manufacturer in the US.

It seems the clamping mechanism has changed recently. I now know exactly how to operate it. Used it today. No problem anymore.
