another going 1 x 10

Postby frankspencer1979 » Thu Mar 27, 2014 21:22 pm

Here's my train of thought, opinions welcomed...

Currently running 2 x 10, 11-32t cassette with 26 tooth granny.

I like the idea of a single ring from a simplicity point of view. However, if I change to 11-36t cassette with current set-up, would I notice a big difference? (Climbing)

From there, how would a single ring feel, say 32t, compared to the current set-up and then from that, modifying the cassette with a 40/42t sprocket? I already have X9 type 2 clutch mech.

I'm concerned about my climbing ability, but I've put up with a 32t big sprocket for this long.

I found a 34t better - but maybe I don't climb as much.

Do the maths - it's just ratios.

I'd rather walk than have to go lower than 32-42.

I've taken the granny off my double so now running 38, 11-36. Been fine so far, though if I made it permanent I'd probably use a 36 ring.

I am running a hope T. rex 40t conversion ring on a standard 11-36 xt cassette with a 32t hope narrow wide retainer ring at the front. Perfect ratio for me currently with my type of riding and weight of bike etc.
