Stuck Crank arm

Postby r3hxn » Wed May 14, 2014 10:46 am

so i might just have to chalk this one down to experience...
but when dismantling my frame, my non drive side crank arm is stuck, the crank removal tool just ripped the threads on it rather then pushing it off. Having pounded it with a mallet for an hour and no budge. My lbs seemed unhelpful/not interested, so is there anything I can do to get it off?

I read someone suggesting submerging it in "3in1 oil" , which I dont have but is there anything more commonly found in the home I can use or should I take a trip to my DIY store?

Anyone else been in a similar situation and had much luck? What about cutting off the bottom bracket arm?

thanks!

It'd be easiest just to cut the arm to release it as in this pic:

It should just pull off once the cut is made.

Try riding round without crank bolt it - then it may well drop off

Like in the picture but at an angle across the base. As soon as you hut steel smack a cold chisel into the cut slot and off the arm pops
