Cycle Show 09: Enigma road and mountain bikes

Steel and titanium rides built in Britain

British bike builders Enigma were displaying several new models at the Cycle Show 09 including a steel hardtail mountain bike, Eos road frame and a blinged out 'show-only' Elle women's bike with 18-carat gold plated parts and diamond-encrusted frame.

Eos

The new steel Eos has all the features you'd expect of a quality handmade frame, including a retro head tube, hand brazed welds and logo detailing. Price is £599.

Elle

No expense was spared when Enigma put together the titanium Elle show bike – and it was definitely one of the most photographed machines on their stand, if not at the whole show.

A collaboration between Enigma and jewellers Nicholas James, it has 18-carat gold parts including the front mech and spokes, plus a diamond-encrusted top tube.

Elite XCR

Also on display was this custom Elite XCR model built for Team Rapha’s Graeme Raeburn for his Cent Cols Challenge ride earlier this year, where a four-man team scaled 100 French cols (mountain passes), climbing 45,000m over 10 days.

Hand-built by Enigma, this flagship steel frame was finished with Shimano’s Dura-Ace groupset, a Thomson Elite stem and Masterpiece seatpost, Chris King Road Classic hubs in pink with Mavic Open Pros, Continental GP4000 tyres, Cateye computer and Rapha’s trademark pink graphics.

Ethos

The Ethos is Enigma's collapsible bike. Couplings on the top and down tubes mean it can be taken apart and fitted into a case for travelling. Price is £1,099.

Ego ST

This new steel hardtail was built in response to customer demand, and Enigma have delivered a brilliantly finished frame.

Made with fillet brazed Columbus Life tubing, it's produced in the company’s Eastbourne workshop and costs £850.
