Olympics: Michael Albasini breaks collarbone

Swiss out of men's road race

Swiss cyclist Michael Albasini is out of the Olympic Games after falling off his bike during a training accident Tuesday.

Albasini, who broke his collarbone, was examined in the Olympic Village clinic ahead of his return to Switzerland. The 27-year-old will not be replaced in the Swiss team for Saturday's race.

In the 1996 Atlanta Summer Games, an ill Tony Rominger was replaced in the men's road race by Swiss mountain bike and cyclo-cross star Thomas Frischknecht, who finished in the pack riding a Ritchey Swiss Cross cyclo-cross bike. Frischknecht won the silver medal in the men's mountain bike cross-country race the day before.
