Registration opens for 2012 Etape Caledonia

Marie Curie announced as charity partner for next three years

Organisers of the Etape Caledonia opened registration for the 2012 edition last week, as well as announcing Marie Curie Cancer Care as its new charity partner for the next three years.

The 81 mile closed road sportive was a sell out this year, so those interested shouldn’t leave it until the last minute to secure one of the 5,000 spots for the 13 May ride. Over 6,000 registered their interest to ride next year, and these people have been given the first opportunity to sign-up before tickets go on wider sale today (Monday 19 September).

Etape Caledonia is now in its sixth year and is the largest closed road sportive in the UK. Attempted sabotage has marred the event in recent years, with nails and tacks strewn across sections of the course to disrupt riders. But by committing to an event that’s estimated to generate over £1m for the local economy, organisers are showing they won’t bow to pressure from a minority.
