Waitrose to deliver the goods by bike in Cambridge

Fewer combustion engines, more pedal power

Waitrose, the UK supermarket chain, has this week begun trialling a bicycle delivery service for customers who order their groceries online.

In a move to increase the amount of delivery slots on offer while reducing the number of its vans on the road, Waitrose staff will be riding hybrid pedal/electric bikes towing a custom trailer attached capable of holding six trays of groceries including frozen grub.

The delivery service will be available to customers living within a maximum of thirty miles from the store.

This is the second step in Waitrose’s commitment to eco-friendly transport for their customers in the area - the Cambridge store has also teamed up with the City Council to provide shopping trailers for customers wishing to transport their shopping home.
