World-class track racing coming to LA

International Olympic hopefuls lining up

Interested in watching the world's best track racers vie for victory and qualify for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing? The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Track Cycling World Cup Classics return to the United States January 18 to 20, 2008 at the ADT Event Center at The Home Depot Center in Los Angeles.

After stops in Sydney and Beijing, the Los Angeles event is the third of the four-race World Cup series in the 2007-08 season. Professional road riders who will be racing on the track at the World Cup include Magnus Backstedt of Sweden, winner of the 2004 Paris-Roubaix and Tour de France stage winner.

A complete U.S. roster and list of international competitors and events schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.

More than 400 athletes from 40 countries, including the United States, will participate in the three-day event in California. The ADT Event Center at The Home Depot Center has hosted one UCI Track World Championships, in addition to three previous World Cups. In 2006, U.S. rider and Southern California resident Sarah Hammer (Ouch Pro Cycling) took home two gold medals and set a track record in the individual pursuit before claiming her second consecutive world title in April. Hammer enters the 2007-08 international track cycling season as a favourite to win a gold medal in the individual pursuit.
