BikeRadar Live is all done and what an amazing way to open up the Garmin MTB Academy! Bathed in glorious sunshine and amongst nearly nine thousand mountain bikers, we've found our first Academy member in Matt Page from Brechfa.
Our team captain and downhill legend Steve Peat set the standard early in the day with a time of 3m 53s around the specially designed Garmin Academy loop. Throughout the day riders tried in vain to get near the main man's time, until Matt arrived.
Tearing around the trail, Matt stole the show with an astonishing time of 3m 35s - a full 18 seconds quicker than Steve Peat himself!
He's now the proud owner of the Commencal Super 4.1, a Garmin Oregon unit and he's booked his place on our academy weekend later this year. Peat met Matt at BikeRadar Live to congratulate him. He said: "The Garmin loop wasn't easy at all - it was off camber and technical in the wooded sections, and really loose under the wheel - so to get a time of 3.35 was immense. Matt did really well and deserves his place on the Garmin MTB academy." You can check out Matt's run on Garmin Connect here. If you missed out at BikeRadar Live, don't worry, you can still make it to our remaining Garmin MTB Academy days at, Coed-y Brenin (28 June) , Glentress (26 July) and Queen Elizabeth Park (16 August). You don't have to do each one, but the more you do, the greater your chances of winning.
Steve Peat is a force on the World Cup race scene, and you could pick up some great riding tips in a weekend on the trails with the most laid-back star on the scene...
The Super uses Commencal's notorious Contact System for a plush and capable ride that is light enough for XC marathon riding, and sturdy enough for trail hammering.
The Edge 705 is loaded with high performance features that'll put you one step ahead, while the Oregon 300 is designed with mapping and trail reading in mind.
