Our Garmin MTB Days series headed to Glentress in Scotland at the weekend, where our third winner was chosen - Grant Ferguson, from nearby Peebles.
Heavy rain failed to deter dozens of riders from signing up for the challenge - and with a Commencal Super 4.1 bike, a weekend at the Garmin MTB Academy with Steve Peat and a Garmin GPS unit all up for grabs, who could blame them? The aim of the day was to navigate your way round a special loop of Glentress's world-class mountain bike trails in the quickest time possible using a route plotted on a Garmin Edge.
The course took in everything from twisting singletrack climbs and steep, slippery descents to part of Glentress's freeride area, with jumps, berms and North Shore ladders. Participants ranged from 10-year-olds to semi-pro racers, and even a group of mates on a stag do.
It was 15-year-old British youth national champion Grant Ferguson who took the win with a blisteringly fast time of 17min 3sec. Asked how he found the Garmin, he said: "I haven't used anything like that before but it was great. The course was good fun. It was a great mix of tracks - manmade and natural."
Grant now takes his place on the Academy, alongside previous winners Matt Page and Adrian Rhodes-Patterson. If you missed out this weekend, don't worry - you can still enter the Garmin MTB Day at Queen Elizabeth Park in Hampshire on Sunday 16 August.
Steve Peat is a force on the World Cup race scene, and you could pick up some great riding tips in a weekend on the trails with the most laid-back star on the scene...
The Super uses Commencal's notorious Contact System for a plush and capable ride that is light enough for XC marathon riding, and sturdy enough for trail hammering.
The Edge 705 is loaded with high performance features that'll put you one step ahead, while the Oregon 300 is designed with mapping and trail reading in mind.
