We run down the machines that ruled the 2016 cobbled Classics

Top 5 pro pavé bikes

Each year at the Spring Classics, a motley crew of bikes take on the ancient, savage stone roads of the Rour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix. Thankfully most of us don't have to contend with these surfaces, let alone race on them – though the solutions turned to by the pro teams would certainly work well on the cruddy surfaces many of us have to content with in our everyday riding.

Which bikes ruled the rough stuff this year? Bringing you pivot points, disc brakes, flexy chainstays, elastomer-based rear suspension and – in a first for the cobbled Classics – an aero winner, we give you the Trek Domane SLR, Merida Scultura Disc, Pinarello Dogma K8-S, S-Works Roubaix SL4 and Scott Foil.
