Asgard Access Bike Shed

BikeRadar verdict

45 out of 5 stars

"Impressively strong with an excellent attack-proof design"

Sun 23 Aug 2009, 5:00 pm BSTBy Neil Pedoe, Cycling Plus

Storage is always a problem for cyclists – you trip over the oily things in the house, and unless you’ve got a good garage, there’s nowhere safe or secure enough to leave them outside either.

Wooden sheds? Bike nicking scum laugh at them. The alternative is a metal storage unit like the Access bike shed.

Made of heavy galvanised steel, the Access has loads of well-thought out security features, such as twin shielded padlocks (included), reinforced and bolted double opening doors, and a huge gas-lift-assisted lid.

Once bolted down outside the house to an area of flat hardstanding, we wouldn’t think twice about leaving thousands of pounds worth of bikes in it.

It will fit four adult bikes, and the shelves and hooks kit make it even more versatile. Delivery is free, and for an extra £100 Asgard will assemble it – otherwise expect a morning of fiddling.

    Hello.

I bought one of these after seeing a review in a magazine. I have to say they are great. I have jammed in 4 bikes and 4 helmets and shoes in (a tight squeeze). The overall service was very good, the unit was delivered in about 9-10 days (ish) though I was told it could be up to three weeks depending on location. I bought direct on line and paid for the installation - A bit pricey so I thought (about 100 quid), but the two men who delivered and then put the unit together were great, and looking at the weight of the unit there is no way I could have done it on my own, the Asgard guys took around 20 mins to put it together then 5 mins to bolt it to the ground. I would recommend them without hesitation, on the service alone.

Just built the 4 bike shed with four ground anchors. Also purchased the additional internal ground anchor so 6 anchor points in total. Its going nowhere.

It was a pleasure to build and v straight forward. Manufacturing tolerances are very good with all holes matching up well to accept screws.

My underground car park is unsafe from allen key kids. Little bastards wont get into this without bringing artillery.

One point, I had to turn the handlebars of one bike to achieve 4 bike storage capacity.

However I have 1 huge full suss mtb, 2 hardtail, 1 cyclocross. Also room left as sides for bike tools and hose etc.

Overall V happy. Not cheap but when you have no other option and your wife is sick of tripping over bikes in the house its the best solution.

What can I say?? Excellent all round unit. This is pretty much bomb proof. As for it being scrap metal?? If any thief is strong enough to lift it, then they deserve to steal it. It is about a tonne in weight, a total monster! Word of warning though, you must have an electric screw driver, there are a lot of screws in this beastie (unless you have very supple wrists!!!! :O) It's also a 2 man job to put it together (I didi it on my own, but it is heavy) The lift up lid is a top idea, I can see in (I looked at the other unit they do which has a fixed roof - which fits 3 bikes) and I have 2 mtb 1 racer and a childs bike plus all my lube, backpacks, track pump, water bottles, shoes etc (note the shelves are an optional extra £40 ish) with room to spare. I would recommend the unit 100% it's rust proof and guranteed for 10 years - I would avoid buying the optional wooden sub floor (it comes with a built in metal floor (and ground bolting kit anyway - so whats the point?? - also see the ground anchor kits they (asgard) think they are priced wrong - £49 for a Sold Secure chain, lock and ground anchor?? they are £80 in halfords
