"A bargain entry-level heart rate monitor for time-triallists"

While it comes from the same company that make CardioSport heart rate monitors, this one is branded BHip – which accounts for its budget price.

The quality is fine, though, and it would work well as an HRM for time-triallists, because it can display your current heart rate alongside its stopwatch. Alternatively, it can show heart rate and time of day or heart rate and a countdown timer.

You can set high and low heart rate limits, and the BHip 9 flashes an up or down arrow and (optionally) bleeps to let you know if you’re not in the zone you’ve specified. The countdown timer can be set to repeat, which is especially handy for interval training.

It stores your last session’s heart rate data, but only as min, max and average unless you download the data to your PC, for which you’ll need a £29.50 WM100 Data Logger. A handlebar mount is an extra £5.50, but you could improvise.
