Blackburn Mars 3.0 Rear Light review

This neat little light from
It uses seven LEDs to provide the light, and is powered by two supplied AAA batteries. The water resistant case is robust, and as well as having a built in mount, comes with a seatpost bracket should you wish to mount on your bike.
Five of the LEDs face straight back at the traffic, while two of them flash through orange casing to act as sidelights. You can pick between flashing, constant and a scrolling effect, which draws more than enough attention to you.

Agree with all the above, but my only niggle is the 2 small screws you have to take out to swap batteries. No biggy, given the run time on 2 AAA's, but a real pain if it dies on your ride home. Not much fun to attempt in the dark ;-)

As the main review says, amazingly bright and equally amazing value. Granted the screws are not ideal to change on the road (its 3 not 2) but at least you know it gives it a decent water tight seal. I think on the flashing mode the 2 AAA's will give something like 150 hours of use!

Just purchased the Mars 3.0 from Wiggle and all I can say is.... wow! Built quality is great with three small screws holding the rear battery cover on, the body to the Mars is protected from rain and bumps and knocks by a rubber surround and the plastic used for the Mars is high quality with everything fitting well together. When turning on the light it just gets better... with seven very bright high quality LED 's used for rear view and even side view for 180 degree cover!
You can choose between 3 modes. Steady, flashing and chase mode with 50 hours given for steady and 150 hours given for flashing.
An integrated clip mount comes with the light for clipping to a seat bag and also a quick release seat-post clamp is enclosed with the Mars.
All in all a great rear light!

...what can you say but just a fantastic rear light.
In flashing mode, it's an attack on the senses and any car approaching from the rear just can't fail to see you. The side flashing amber lights are a great inclusion. Super, well thought out design, very long battery use (using the quite ordinary looking stock batteries) and all in a very well constructed package. The seatpost attachment also includes a rubber thingy that under friction prevents the whole thing twisting out of sync when accidently clipped.
With a lifetime guarantee, it's almost too good to be true. Buy one.

Brilliant light, would be 5*, only snag is as mentioned by others - fiddly screws; mine have now succumbed completely to rust (after heavy use in foul conditions, i.e. wet, salted roads all winter) & the water & rust has started to get inside.

From the last reviewer, it's almost impossible for water to get in if it's done up properly, and given that the light is backed by a lifetime warranty, just have it replaced. (Have you tried a bit of vaseline on the screw heads - works wonders over winter, not that the srews on mine have any problems at all).
My review: Rediculously cheap compared to similar offerings from Cateye that aren't water tight or as bright. The clip on the back is excellent as is the bike fixing should you need to use it. Just ordered a second one to stick on my jersey pocket. With superb brightness in any mode, excellent build quality and a lifetime warranty, why would you buy anything else for £15?

Got this the other day. Easy to fit.... only tool needed is a 1 pence coin or flat head screwdriver.
Super bright. Seems extremely well made, very solid.
I can see it could be slightly annoying when you change that batteries as you have to undo 3 little screws to get inside, but, that is a very small price to pay for such a good light at a good price.

I bought one of these lights a couple of years ago; they are very, very bright! Well sealed and last for ages in flashing mode. screws used to fix the light together rusted up. Once I cleaned them I dropped some hot beeswax over each screw head. Sorted, to undo just push the screwdriver into the wax.
