"Not a bad little unit for the money despite the fiddly mounting"

With five LEDs running off two AA batteries, this lamp from Smart is a decent all-rounder. 

The beam is just about strong enough for riding with, and when it comes to being seen visibility is pretty good too. During our water test it did let a little moisture in – though it carried on working despite this. 

It’s a simple light with three settings: flashing, constant and off, starting off in flashing when switched on, then cycling through to constant and then off. The mounting is a cam lock design which leaves a little to be desired, being rather fiddly to use. 

That’s the only drawback though, as the light itself is really rather good.

    You can get non branded versions of this light from Wilkinson's for £9.99 - comes as a set called HighBeamer complete with a passable 3 LED back light - Bargain!

    @ damnedinflames: Good call! After reading this I bought the Wilkinson's High Beamer set and have been using it for over a month now without issue. The front light is indeed a non-branded version of the Smart Polaris 5 LED, I must admit that I don't use the back light as my current one is better, even so, if you are on the look out for a decent front light, this is a bargain!

    A word of caution here: I have already got the Smart Polaris 3 LED front lamp (quoted as 54 Candle Powers) and very pleased I am with it too but fancied getting the 5 LED version. Just tried the Wilkinson's 5 LED High Beamer and whilst a lot of it is identical (casing and bracket) the crucial bit is even the 5 LED 'High beamer' isn't as good as the 3 LED Polaris. Hunting around appears the 5 LED Polaris is quoted at 90 Candle Powers.
