The efficient bike light.

BikeRadar verdict

45 out of 5 stars

"Bright, with a built in reflector and simple but neat mountings - it's all good."

By Paul Smith

A whopping nine LEDs live inside this compact unit from S-Sun, powered by two AAA batteries. The middle of the unit is a reflector, and a very efficient one at that, but the main interest is those LEDs.

There are three modes of operation: flashing mode, constant mode, and then 'eagle wing' mode, where the lights are laid out in an X shape but flash up and down like the wings of a bird. It's not as impressive as it sounds. What is impressive is the brightness and the side visibility, which is only marginally overshadowed by the Cateye LD1100. The light comes with a fitting that allows it to be clipped to a bag or jacket, and in the box there's a seatpost fitting (24mm to 32mm) and a seatstay fitting (16mm to 20mm).

As a quick update, I haven't seen this light anywhere else but I have seen a virtually identical one on chain reaction cycles names as the

    "BLT Ultra Wazoo DX"

,more reviews on there at the moment.

They bring up quality issues, one of which I agree with - the on off button can be a bit temperamental but i don't mind spending an extra 5 secs turning it on/off/to the right setting for the light it gives off. I've had friends pass me on country roads and I've asked them later how good they thought the light was from a drivers point of view "yes don't worry i could see you from bloody miles away thanks" was the general reply :D so i'm happy.

    -1 for the build quality

    OUCH

Just bought this from on-one £14.50 inc postage so that was good. Delivered less than 5 mins ago so don't expect much of a review.

Was looking for a rear light that could be attached to clothing, flashed in someway and was bright.

Just in case you didn't get the message from Aidanr - this thing is bright.

I excitedly opened it up but in the supplied batteries quickly noting the clip. Its not like a sprung clip really, its a a u-bended piece of plastic. undecided as to how well it grabs clothing, can't see it going wrong on roads to be honest.

This thing IS bright though and in my books the brighter the better. I keep turning it on and trying to see what it looks like on but i think i've damaged by eyes even with squinting. ha ha.

quoted at 40hrs run time on constant, 90 on eagle mode.

one last thing its pretty bright.

I have had this for about a month, so I can't comment too much on durability, but it's bright. Which is what you want.

The on button in a bit awkward to get to, especially with gloves, but this isn't really a problem. The finish isn't top quality but it's a relatively inexpensive light, and it's good enough.

The clamp fitting is decent, and hasn't caused me any problem. The light clips into it with a clip that can also be used to put it on clothing etc. which is a nice touch.

    And it's bright.

Best place to buy it I've found is On-One for about £12 (as of Oct '07) which makes it an excellent buy.
