Magnum Locks Plus 110cm Armoured Cable
BikeRadar verdict
"Completely unrelaible bike cable"
Out of the box the Magnum Plus cable looked to be a winner. With a Sold Secure Gold-rated armoured cable, a decent length and 25mm thickness, five keys included and backed up with a £1,200 anti-theft guarantee, we fully expected to have our work cut out for us.
Out came the trusty bolt croppers for the first test and as soon as we'd clamped them on things didn't look quite so rosy. The armour on the cable is overlapped, but with a little pressure we could get in the gaps in the armour links and simply crush the ends down through the cable, which despite the outside diameter was just 8mm thick. This is very disappointing - we can only assume the usually very reliable Sold Secure had an off day on this one.

User review of Magnum Locks Plus 110cm Armoured Cable
I bought this lock along with my bike a few months ago, and recently had my bicycle stolen. The salesperson commented on the lock at the time of purchase, by telling me it was more likely that the bike would be stolen by someone cutting through the object it is chained to (eg, railings) than through the lock itself.
Then I woke up one morning to find that my bike had been stolen and the Magnum lock had been dropped on the floor nearby. It had been cleanly sliced through, with a grazing/deformation of the edge of one of the armour components (in order to get through the armour.)
To top this off, Moore Large (the manufacturer) have refused to provide warranty service as I did not submit a registration form within 15 days of purchase. Their terms indicate that they would like the form submitted within 15 days (using the wording "please send" as opposed to "you must send") but later state that a registration form, if not previously submitted, must be sent in with any claims made.
There is also a list of other conditions that must be met before they will pay out (such as, if an electrical/gas tool is used to cut the lock, they won't pay.)
I realise that no lock is going to guarantee 100% security, but this all seems exceptionally poor. Next time I'm considering getting an alarmed bike chain. I expect if there is a Magnum lock of this nature that it would probably let off a very quiet beeping noise if the quality I have seen so far is anything to go by...

Not too sure about this lock but today I had my Magnum 3041 Cable Lock (http://www.magnum.ws/Magnum/3041.htm) attacked in the Kings Cross area of London - but it survived thankfully!
To be honest I would surmise it was carried out by an opportunist rather than a "professional" bike thief, even though it survived this attempt I will now be relegated to a less important job or as a back up lock.
Not too sure what I will replace it with at the moment but I am looking in to it??
