OnGuard Bulldog DT lock review
|$58.60
BikeRadar verdict
"On the money in terms of top security at a wallet-friendly price"
Kryptonite and Abus rely on clever design to make their flagship locks secure, whereas OnGuard falls back on pure brute strength.
Aside from the tough U-lock, the addition of a 1.2m hoop-ended cable – easily long enough to loop through your front wheel and back through the shackle, keeping the head end secure too – makes the Bulldog DT’s sub-£40 price tag extremely tempting.
That’s providing, of course, that the lock is up to the security job. Luckily, the Bulldog’s shackle is immensely stiff and the armoured walled lock barrel is no wimp either – after five minutes of abuse from our hammer, saw and bolt croppers it was still operating, albeit with a slightly stiffer lock mechanism.
In test two we brought out the portable power tools, which severed the shackle in just over a minute. That’s a good time for a device that’s as well priced as this one. Remember that it had already been subjected to five minutes of attack before we resorted to the power tools. The Bulldog comes with one key, complete with a built-in LED light, and four spare ones as well.
