Boblbee Megalopolis Aero | $239
BikeRadar verdict
"Expensive, but a superbly made rigid pack that'll last"
You’re unlikely to find a better constructed bag than this 25-litre rigid backpack, no matter what you’re prepared to pay. It’s beautifully made and not as heavy as it looks.
It’s strong too; CE certified as a back protector for motorbiking and skiing, making it an obvious choice for high risk fast city commuting with delicate gear.
Inside, there’s a multi-pocketed organiser that’ll hold a laptop and all your odds and sods, and the top secures with a bungee and clip to render the whole thing weatherproof.
The harness is comfortable and doesn’t get sweaty, especially on the lower back where the shaped wings and waist strap keep everything solid.
The rigid shell means that the bag can’t pull out of shape for large cargo, so it doesn’t hold quite as much as you might expect.
A wide range of accessories are available too, making the Megalopolis a versatile option.

User review of Boblbee Megalopolis Aero
If you don't mind the bright green colour, you can pick up a slightly older Boblbee Megalopolis Sport (different lid, no pockets inside) for just £55 at ebags.co.uk. If you need internal pockets, just pick up one of the slide-in organiser accessories (£20-£30) and you've still got a bargain.
It was this bag & deal that ended the backpack vs panniers debate for me, offering good protection for my laptop in a well designed, comfortable bag that might even provide some protection for me in the event of an accident.
I'd give it 4 out of 5, knocking one point off because the internal carrying space is relatively small given the outside size of the bag,
