Mucky Nutz Bender Fender 2.0 review

BikeRadar verdict
"One of our favourite mudguards just got better"
Shopping partners
Mucky Nutz's original Bender Fender was a good looking and cost effective alternative to the classic 'inner tube round the fork crowns' trick used by downhill racers to stop their front wheels flicking mud up into their faces.
Version 2.0 is still featherlight (16g) but provides slightly more coverage, fits more easily and securely, and is available in eight colours.
Fitting takes a few minutes, and you'll need a knife to cut the hook-and-loop straps to the right length for your fork. But once in place it does a sterling job.
It survived a week of chairlift uplifts, jet washing and general abuse in the French Alps unscathed and kept our goggles noticeably cleaner, as well as drawing plenty of inquiring glances.
The Bender Fender is one of those products that, once fitted, you forget is even there because it just gets on with its job with minimal fuss. What more can you ask for? Okay, so it won't keep your clothes or bike clean, but that's what down tube mounted mudguards are for.

Manufacturers description
Here's a reminder of the Bender Fender's plus points: -* It stops any muck, horse, cow and dog s*** from being flung into your face.
* It is fitted as close as possible to the knobbly bits for optimum 'muck' catching.
* It protects your fork stanchions and brace from getting caked, reducing the need for cleaning and servicing.
* Discretion is its middle name. It's small but effective. Don't just take our word for it! There's loads of positive chit chat on the forums and in the online mags.
* It's the lightest mudguard available!!
* Uses hook and loop straps to attach to the brace and stanchions, so it's easy to fit and take off.
* It's compatible with all forward and double sus brace designs.
* It can be used as a rear shock guard on some full sus arrangements.
* When off, it's easy to clean as it's flexible and opens flat. Simply wipe it and you're done!!

Dead simple and very effective, but use scissors to cut the velcro, not a knife! Got one of these on the front, and combined with a crudcatcher on the downtube it works brilliantly. Two of the original version on the inside of my seat stay bridge do a great job of keeping crap off the shock and from flying up between my legs too. Although not cheap, their effectiveness and ease of use makes them good value.
