BikeRadar verdict
"Thick and adheres well; time will tell if it really does lessen impact damage"

The Shelter protection tape kit comprises eight separate pieces designed to protect your beloved frame from scratches, abrasion and – unusually – impact. It’s 1.2mm thick, transparent and when applied it’s almost invisible.
The adhesive is fantastic and moulds to any shape and stays there. We tested it on the down tube, chainstays and under cables. For cable rub it seems overkill at 1.2mm but it works, and the chainstay piece stays in place and does a good job too.
It’s best used to protect your frame on the down tube, which can take a beating. Although we’ve so far had no gripes with the Shelter tape, time will tell if it can repel repeated impacts, especially from sharper-edged hits.

I have used this tape to protect the downtube of my carbon Stumpjumper. Only applied the tape about 6 weeks ago, so still early days; however, I have repeatedly ridden a couple of my local Peak District descents that typically throw up at least 2 or 3 'downtube clanger' stones, and the bike has been noticeably quieter than usual. It's difficult to tell whether stuff has been striking the tape, because it has a springy almost self-healing quality about it. For anyone about to buy and fit the tape, I'd advise using a very sharp scalpel/craft knife or really sharp scissors; . the tape also has a strange internal rubbery webbing, and the adhesive is way stickier than some other 'copter tapes I've used.
Personally, I think it's a bit OTT for protecting areas against cable rubs (and use normal 'copter tape for that), but for protecting carbon, or thin walled alu downtubes, I think it's well worthwhile.
