"All sorts of data from your training, and a good ride experience"

By Dave Atkinson

Tacx claim that this is the first turbo that can be calibrated, which is of course nonsense - you can calibrate any turbo (against itself) with a simple braking test for repeatable assessments of your fitness.

However, the calibration system of the Flow allows a readout of actual wattage, and the computer unit has some excellent features. You can set a goal wattage and the computer will adjust the resistance according to your speed and cadence - perfect for RAMP tests. You get speed, cadence and calorific data too, as well as heart rate with an optional non-coded transmitter such as a Polar T31.

This is the turbo for the number crunchers. Assembling the thing is a nightmare - it's practically flat packed - but once together it's sturdy and stable, and the ride quality from the quiet electromagnetic resistance unit and flywheel is good. There's a cam lock for the wheel and a matching lever for the roller, both of which are fairly easy to use and adjust. It's a super training aid if you're the kind that likes to keep detailed records.

Manufacturers description

The Flow is part of the new generation of ergotrainers. Heart rate, power (Watts), speed and pedalling frequency are measured and shown on the aerodynamic cycle computer's modern display. These four types of training data provide you with important tools for working on your fitness in a targeted and efficient manner and delivering optimum performance.
