This new tubeless-specific sealant contains latex and is milky in colour, unlike Slime’s other sealants, which are bright green and snot-like!
It’s easy to insert the sealant into your tubeless tyres. You can either attach the bottle to the valve with the supplied adaptors, or pour the liquid directly into the tyre using the measuring cup provided.
Slime recommend 60ml per tyre for cross-country and 90ml for downhill riding, so the 473ml (16fl oz) bottle contains enough for topping the tyres up over time. This makes it very good value too, at as little as £1.64 per tyre each time you use it.
We tested the sealant on a pair of UST compatible rims, with Maxxis UST compatible tyres on a variety of terrain at a variety of tyre pressures. It works quickly with regular pin-sized punctures on the main part of the carcass, and dealt with burping – purging of air as the tyre momentarily comes away from the rim – very well.
We barely lost any pressure during our extensive testing period. We did suffer a tiny sidewall puncture that didn’t seal properly, which created an irritating slow puncture.
We managed to seal the hole once we’d reinflated the wheel and left it horizontal overnight though. Slime’s tubeless sealant is good, but we’ve had better short-term results with other latex-based sealants.
