On-One 456 Summer Season frame review
BikeRadar verdict
"Super-slack angles and a blast to ride at a bargain price"
Shopping partners
You simply can’t get more fun for your money than with a 456 Summer Season. It’s based on On-One’s steel 456 all-rounder frame, but with a two-degree slacker head angle (66.6 degrees with a 130mm/5.1in fork) and plain gauge chromoly steel tubing.
The result is a super-tough, crash-proof, CEN-approved bargain for your summer trip to the mountains or if you just want to try a downhill hardtail without spending a fortune. It’s not light but the solid feel still removes more trail sting than an alloy bike, especially if you add some fat tyres.
We plugged in a Fox 36 fork and we’ve been loving it for cross-country trail blasts and general downhill use. An ISCG mount simplifies chainguide fitting, it’ll take a 160mm (6.3in) fork and at less than £150 it’s a total bargain.

love this bike. takes down hill beatings with confidence and climbs suprisingly well. recently took mine on a few 30 mile rides around the lakes and it's an absolute blast. Built with on one rigid 29er forks, Xt and raceface kit it wieghts around 27lbs. soon to be adorned with middleburn external bb cranks and a few other pimp parts from hope.
oh, the clear coat chips easily on my raw, but it'll be painted soon as i decide on a colour i want
bottom line, this was meant to be a thrash bike while i saved up for a full sus. think i'll just use this one till it rusts to dust. i love it you should too.

@ lazyidiot
So a 69er then, or did you run a 26" front wheel with the 29er carbon fork??

Well £150.Took a punt and swapped all the kit off another bike. This is the best £150 you will find. Been riding it for 6 months and it is still a head turner wherever I go.Always get a comments like "how much" and "I will have to get one of them".It also gives great confidence on some of the more technical sections.Put some 700mm wide bars on it and you have a bike that will go anywhere and do anything.

Great fun bargain frame. Not the best quality finish but for the price I can accept that.
Built mine up with 160mm forks, DH wheels & 1x9 gearing & it's awesome fun on the DH trails

I bought this to replace my entry level xc alu hardtail, i've had it a few months now and i've noticed a dramatic increase in my speed on the trails, its just slack enough to give you confidence and stability without slowing you up too much on the climbs ect
Mine is built with a 100mm fork up front and the front end feels a tad low so i think anything between 120mm-150mm would be fine for xc duties.
The frame is not particularly supple as some steel frames can be due to the massive wishbone seatstays, but for me that wasn't really the insentive for buying the frame anyway.
If you want a bike that can handle xc and downhill (i ride a fair bit of downhill and freeride too) and costs peanuts, this is the one for you. :)
@Monsieur Les Papadic, i think he was referring to the fact its designed as a long travel FR/DH/AM hardtail yet still climbs well, as opposed to a pure XC hardtail that would obviously be best at climbing .
