Good frame and wheels make the Dark Plasma worth serious consideration

We reviewed the Dark Plasma VR earlier this year, and it’s good to see that this cheaper version keeps the same 12K carbon frame, Control Tech components and handbuilt Pro-Lite wheels. In fact, the only difference is its Shimano Tiagra groupset rather than 105.

This works well, has a lovely light shifting action, a slightly lower bottom gear, and keeps the cost down. The Dark Plasma is a comfortable all-rounder and a competent climber, and would make an attractive package for a first carbon road bike – if anything, representing better value than the £1,500 VR.
