  • I've had a Mono for a few months and it is a fantastic bike. The freewheel on mine is fine and the quality and spec of the frame and fittings are really good. The bike has a superb Chromoly 520 Reynolds frame, carbon blade forks and a lovely retro colour scheme which the pictures don't do justice to. This bike makes a great winter training bike and it rides superbly. I've ridden it as much as my triple geared winter bike and don't miss the gears; the single speed gearing is great, spot on for fast country rides. If it had an Italian or American brand name it would be far more expensive. I think it really knocks the spots off most of the competition. Oh and i bought mine new for £325 RESULT!!!

More reviews of British brands please!

  • Not a goer at £649 I'm afraid. For £325 I'd have one too mind!

  • Dull lifeless frame, great for boring middle aged types who want to have a mid-life-crisis and ride a ss/fg bike as it isn't going to do anything unpredictable. However if you're looking for something fun then go elsewhere.

Also, as with the entire Dawes range, very overpriced.

  • ride_whenever you really should get out more. Nearly 9000 posts in 3.5 years. You're clearly a bore and an anorak and don't know sh@T. Try testing some of the gear you seem to constantly spout out about. At least Guy Kesteven and I have actually ridden the thing we are commenting on.

"nippy and agile steering feel that’ll wake you up in the morning and let you swerve round potholes with ease" . This in ride_whenevers small vocabulary equates to Dull!

    What a Tw@t.

  • Hi I bought my Dawes Mono 1 month ago, From Schmoos Cycles Swansea. I am 52 & 5foot 5inches 31 leg,the 53cm frame fits fine, I use it for work and club rides, I struggled a bit at first with the 72 inch gear but now my fitness and strength have improved I love riding it. I found the reach to long and I don't like drop bars so Schmoos flipped the stem so that it angled up and fitted bullhorn bars with bar end brakes and it fits perfect, also fitted full length SKS mudguards the rear one secured to the frame with butterfly bolts so that I can remove the wheel without using tools. great bike

  • I have had my Mono for 9 months now. I think the size options are fine for me. I have the seatpost very high and it towers over the handlebars and looks really good.

I use mine for winter club runs and training rides. I usually have mine set-up as a single speed and yes the free gear is not the best as it makes a ticking noise. I have recently flipped the hub round and now use it as a fixed gear bike I have recently completed a 100 mile Audax. I think the bike is great but the 650 price tag is a bit steep. Fortunatly I paid about half this as the bike was an exdisplay bike from Pedros Cycles (an other ebay bargain).

  • I have just purchased this bike and have not yet had a chance to use it very much due to a headset problem. On first use it was very stiff and unresponsive. I adjusted the headset and loosened it off so there was no play but forks would turn freely. It felt good but as soon as I got on it and started to ride it there was very noticeable click on the headset and movement when the front brake was applied (this did not happen at adjustment stage). I tried in vane to adjust and readjust as necessary but the same problem persisted (either too tight or movement and click when brake applied). I took it back to the dealer and the dealer had no joy with it either. It is currently at Dawes who are going to fit new headset and forks and I hope this solves the problem. I am no bike mechanic but have never had a problem adjusting a headset before. It would be interesting to know if any other readers have had the same issue?

  • Also had similar problems to Archstanton with the forks of mine, something is out of alignment with them. So far not got a response from Dawes, I guess that's the dangers of buying mail order...
