Aldi Crane Sports Cycling Gilet
BikeRadar verdict
"The big surprise is that it's... okay. Not great, but great value"
That's not a misprint: it really does cost less than six quid. And apart from tearing holes in a bin bag or stuffing a newspaper up your jersey, you won't find a cheaper way of keeping wind off your chest than this.
It is quite heavy and bulky, although it will squash into a jersey pocket. Alternatively, it can be fastened under the saddle with its Velcro tabs. It's cut loose, reflecting its leisure bias, and you should go down a size for a better fit. The hem is only loosely elasticated and the waistcoat-style cinches at the sides don't gather it in enough over Lycra. Saying that, it keeps the wind and drizzle off well enough, which is commendable for the price. There's a storm flap for the zip, a high collar, and the armholes aren't too wide. There's also a mesh back, reflective piping front and rear, and a zipped rear pocket. While it's not great in absolute terms, for this money it's a steal.

I have the black version and its great for running, cycling whatever. For £6 its fantastic. The assos one would need to make my breakfast and run my post ride bath for me for that price.

Not the gillet, but I bought the Crane Sports bib tights a few months back for £9.99. IMHO they are excellent VFM.used them on the Strathpuffer 24 last week and they kept me warm and surprisingly dry. There are still the odd pair on sale in Aldi shops and they are now down to £3.99. ok they may not be Cannondales but they're just as good and 20 times cheaper.

I have some Crane gear which is pretty good - great value. Unfortunately the zip on the last incarnation of the gillet was so cheap that it burst open on the first outing. Hopefully they might have upgraded it as the rest of the gillet seemed good quality.

I agree with Timski as the zip broke on mine after only a few wears. Shame as the rest of it was well constructed, styled and featured.
