"Ticks all our foul weather riding boxes"

Mon 1 Mar 2010, 10:00 am GMTBy

Protecting your extremities is one of the toughest tasks of winter riding. Stretched out on the bars, your hands are exposed to everything the weather throws at them.

This means we’re always on the lookout for effective winter gloves – to the point of trying gloves designed for other outdoor pursuits because they often have features that make them better suited to foul weather than bike-specific mitts.

Cue the Versatility glove from waterproof sock supremos SealSkinz. It’s designed as a multipurpose bad weather glove and is waterproof, windproof and breathable so ticks all our boxes.

The absence of grip padding isn’t an issue thanks to the soft leather palm, and the resulting lack of compression kept blood flowing freely and hands reasonably warm. We’re still looking for a solution to water running down base layer sleeves and into our gloves after six hours of solid rain, though

  • I have a pair of these, ver very good gloves in my opinion. I would have liked if the inside dried slightly quicker. If you;ve been riding for a few hours and the inside gets sweaty then you take them off to eat something for example, then put them back on they are very wet and cold, but that feeling goes away once your hands warm back up again.

overall very pleased and would reccomend them, they've showed no signs of breaking so far or anything.

  • I have a gel padded version of these, now it has duct tape over both palms as the gel casings soon start to unhitch.

  • Own a pair, had for a year and half, this winter used everyday, work great. Not washed enough and still not smell too bad. Work well till you get to about -1,-2 then my hands started to get cold, but just used a thermal liner. Regards the comment of water running down the sleeve into them, never happend to me. Why not just have coat sleeve go over the top of glove. My look slightly different as they have reflective strips, handy for when indicating.

  • Shocking gloves! These were completely wet through after 30 min and zero thermal warmth. Avoid these at all costs as these could give you false confidence that could cost you dearly!
