Made from Sportwool, a stretchy and lightweight polyester/ wool/ elastane mix, Rapha's hat doesn't totally stop the wind, but it does provide a good level of insulation that's suitable for most UK winter conditions.

A mesh lining transports sweat outwards and keeps things comfortable, and you can fold the ribbed ear guard up to let the air flow when the sun comes out. Like a cotton race cap, it can be worn on its own or underneath a helmet perfectly comfortably, while Rapha's typically understated branding gives a really classy feel.

Winters are hard in Belgium. An ice-cold wind from the North Sea blows across the plains and murs, carrying rain and sleet. This classic, Belgian-style hat has been designed with these conditions in mind. Worn under a helmet or on its own, the Rapha Winter hat will keep you warm and might even increase your training miles. The hat is made in Italy from brush-backed, stretch Sportwool TM (70% polyester, 26% wool, 4% elastane) giving great insulation. A soft mesh lining wicks away perspiration to improve comfort. The 7 panel design gives an excellent fit and one size fits all. The ribbed ear guard gives added protection and can also be folded up for an authentic Freddy Maertens look.

  • Second winter, this hat is perfect until temps really drop. Fits under a helmet, washes up easily. Doesn't look too daft.

  • Great hat fits perfectly and keeps head warm only cost is an issue. I also own a Biemme Windtex hat in a very similar style and this cost a third of the price of the price and is wearing just as well

  • I like the style and fit but the cold wind whistles through the fold down flap that covers your ears so I don't think it's really a winter hat. A winter hat should stop icy blasts into the ear-holes I think.
