"Fiddly left-hand zip spoils this lightweight windproof"

By Mat Brett, Cycling Plus

At 107g (medium), including its stuff sack, the Oxylite windproof weighs the same as an average gilet and packs down just as small.

It’s a just-in-case jacket, made of lightweight rip-stop nylon which keeps the wind off effectively, though shower resistance is so-so.

Mesh side panels aid breathability, and there’s a draw-corded hem, dropped tail, thumb loops and a full-length zip with storm flap.

It’s a pity, for the 90 percent of the population who’ll fumble it, that the zip is left-handed. The cut is rather loose for cycling so we’d recommend going down a size. It’s available in ice white or pewter, and sizes S-XXL.

Manufacturers description

A windproof that packs down to the size of a tennis ball. The Oxylite is made from Hydrovent™- LITE – a very lightweight Rip-stop Nylon (15d), coated with a DWR finish creating a windproof fabric that packs up very small. The DWR finish will also repel light rain showers. The Oxylite is an excellent all round piece of kit. Perfect for all types of cycling, mountain trekking/walking/running or fitness training out in the streets. You can take this jacket anywhere just in case it gets cold and you need some extra warmth and protection from the elements.

# Active cut with drop tail and mesh side panels
# Thumb loops to keep the elements out
# Elasticated cuffs
# Single hand operated, elasticated drawcord hem
# Packs into a stuff sack that can be strapped to your arm whilst running or bunged in a rear pocket of a cycle top
