The Denizen uses Gore-Tex's Paclite super fabric to great effect here. As the name suggests, Paclite is specifically designed as an extremely lightweight, packable fabric featuring Gore-Tex's windproof, waterproof and breathable performance.
It's a lot lighter than the XCR and although not as hard wearing, it's the perfect fabric for a lightweight mountain bike jacket. Berghaus sizing is always on the roomier side and even though it's by no means baggy, the Denzien will swamp skinny people who require the length of the larger sizes.
However, this also means there's plenty of room to build up good layering underneath. To keep weight to a minimum extra features aren't huge, but you do get a removable chest pocket and tougher Gore-Tex XCR is used on the wear areas to reinforce the forearms, hips, cuffs and shoulders.
