It’s hard not to love this jacket, especially when it costs so little. The Hawkley has all the airs and graces of something double its price, as well as many of the functions, and it’s not as bulky as some cheaper-end jackets either.
DHB have neatly crafted the Hawkley from nylon 2.5-layer rip-stop material, which has a Teflon coating and is taped at the joints to stop any rain infiltration. This is great at keeping the wet stuff out and breathes well for the most part, but does start to get a little sweaty when the hammer goes down. Luckily good size armpit zips offer temperature control, and it's good to see sealing zips on the front and the side pockets, too.
The fleece-lined high collar with a draw cord takes care of neck duties, while wrist closures keep any draughts or water out very efficiently.
Two side pockets and one on the back ensure there’s plenty of room to stash any necessaries, great if you're a utilitarian type.
All of this does make the Hawkley a little bulkier than some jackets, but it will still slip easily into a small pack.
