"Stylish heavier duty, but heavier sweating showerproof shell."

By Guy Kesteven

Fox has a real knack of making even its budget gear look great, and this shell turns on the style on or off the bike.

The Ripstop fabric is a heavier feel than most windshells but the DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating shrugs off heavier showers than the others here as well as adding a bit more warmth in cold winds. Tall fleecey collar and hidden drawcord drop tail add extra draught-proofing and snugness too, while the fit is a casual loose cut . The downside to this sturdier feel is a fast sweat build up, although Velcro adjustable cuffs and mesh lined chest pockets help dump body heat if you open them up.

There's an internal mesh panel to suck sweat towards the 'cape' back scoops too, but obviously that only works if you're not wearing a backpack. There's no back pocket, and the handwarmers don't ride well when loaded, but you do get an internal chest pocket. It's a Velcro tab rather than zip fastening though so keep checking your keys and cash are still there. Big reflective strips keep you road safe without cramping style and while it's heavier and bulkier than the other shower shells here it still just about squeezes into a jersey pocket if you roll it tight.

Price is reasonable for what you're getting as well, especially as it's the only shell here we'd be okay wearing down town without feeling too 'bikey'. Also available in a ladies version in light blue or light grey.
