Quirky, easy to use, light protection for a quick commute or shower

Although not women-specific, this Dutch innovation in rainproof utility cycling is worth a mention. The idea of the Rainlegs is to protect your upper leg and knees from wind and rain by using a parachute material while leaving the rear of your leg uncovered to reduce overheating.

This is exactly what they did - and they worked a treat for short commutes where changing trousers wasn't an option. Out in the rain they performed well, but don't expect them to protect the rest of your legs and backside, especially if your bike doesn't have mudguards. We found them very user-friendly, stowing away as a belt you can buckle around your waist, then unfolding to cover your thighs in an almost apron-style. Elasticated and adjustable belts hold the garment in place behind your thighs and knees, the latter featuring rear-facing reflective straps.
