"Pricey but great for hiking and biking – on the roomy side"

Reflected in their price, the Expeditions feature lightweight Gore-Tex XCR fabric, which helps keep the water out while still maintaining some breathability.

They’re not as heavily built as Shimano’s popular Gore-Tex boots, the MT90s (£115), thanks to a  lightweight, airier mesh construction. A quick-lace system with a toggle closure replaces conventional laces, with a Velcro strap to stop the end flapping about. 

A seriously chunky Vibram sole might weigh them down but it makes the Expeditions great for hiking, with some extra flex in the toe area a bonus for off the bike activities too. 

We’d point out that the fit is on the roomy side – in a 44 they needed thick socks to stop our tester’s feet moving around.
