"Great value shoes with good longevity, and all wrapped up in a comfy and cool-looking package"

By James Blackwell

Shimano's excellent DX skate style shoes have been updated and they now come in black. The gum sole is grippy for flat pedals but they're firm favourites for trail use too because they take SPD cleats.

With a taller inside ankle support and a lace-saving flap that's reminiscent of old skate shoes, these Shimanos offer great protection from the elements while shielding your ankles, making them great all-year-round trail shoes. You'll see them a lot on the pro downhill circuit too, worn by the likes of Tracy Moseley.

The shoes fit extremely well, and feel and look just like trainers. Thanks to the well-designed grippy gum sole, you won't find yourself skidding all over the place on wet rocks once they're unclipped.

They take a hell of a beating through rough terrain, they'll last a long time, they're well priced, and they look good with jeans - the perfect bike shoes, then.
