Cannondale Range Shoes

BikeRadar verdict

4 out of 5 stars

"The Range is a good all-rounder for trail and commuting use, too..."

By Justin Loretz & Warren Rossiter

Cannondale’s Range shoes offer a good compromise between protection and comfort, though they are a shade on the pricey side. They work well for trail riding and road commuting.

The sole’s torsional stiffness makes for efficient pedalling but it also has a proper patterned grip and deep cushioned heel. That makes the Range shoes much better than most cycling shoes to walk or even run in.

The look is understated enough for the pub or office, and the fit is supportive and comfortable with a well-shaped insole and deeply padded ankle area.

What is noticeable is their relative lack of weight for a chunky trail shoe. That suggests they’d work equally well for commuting or trekking – an impression backed up by the softer Duratech outsole that offers plenty of traction on harder surfaces.

That said, the tread is rugged enough to provide plenty of grip in the dirt.

The nubuck and mesh uppers make for a cool airy feel, while the toes and heel cup are polyurethane-coated for greater durability.

Neat features such as the heel loop make pulling them on easier. The Velcro cover on top of the tongue protects the laces and Scotchlite flashes help with night-time visibility.

In all these are great shoes for clipless users, whether you’re going on or off road and they’re built to last.

I've had a pair of Cannondales very similar to this design for about 5 years, used almost daily for commuting and taken me across Exmoor, the Quantocks and Dartmoor as well. Still going strong, they are a really well built pair of shoes. The only thing with the old ones was no lace protection, looks like this has been sorted now.

If these are anything like as good, they are easily worth the money.
