Mavic Switchback
BikeRadar verdict
"Bit light for full winter, but a great looking, weather shrugging performance trail shoe"
French wheelmen Mavic are new to shoes, but they’ve created a cracking line-up based on Adidas/Salomon experience and their own ingenuity.
The Switchback is a great example, using an innovative softshell upper on a super-grippy Terra Grip clipless-compatible sole to create a light and comfortable trail shoe. It’s obviously designed as a year-round – not winter specific – shoe, so there’s no insulation and the sole isn’t sealed. The softshell fabric shrugs off weather well, and with a thick wool or waterproof sock inside it’ll go far into the frosty season.
While it’s not the tightest fastening system around, the ‘Quick Lace’ pulltab is a breeze to use with cold hands and it pedals and runs really well too.
