Ground Effect Double Happy Shorts | $74
BikeRadar verdict
"Not bad shorts, but there are better looking, full-featured alternatives available for less"
Despite a fairly basic mid-length 'boy scout’ shape, the stretch side and back panels of these baggy mountain bike shortsgive a good fit that doesn’t show your crack or catch on saddles.
The big flappy leg openings and light silky material are definitely more ‘dad’ than ‘dude’ though, especially if you’re flashing the mesh liner to the local populous.
The soft, slightly shaped pad is okay for medium mileages and left our eggs less free range than we feared, but it’s not removable for washing, which is a pain.
Ground Effect have been making straightforward mountain bike gear in New Zealand for years now, and the Double Happy baggy shorts have always been a cornerstone of their range.
For UK riders, Ground Effect's rapid order-to-delivery turnaround time can rival UK-based outlets.
Unfortunately for them, there are now several competitors offering shorts with more features and better fashion sense for less money.
