Stretchy shorts with good climate control and equally impressive cushioning – an excellent buy

Fox’s new all-mountain style shorts are extremely stretchy, which allows the rider unhampered pedalling and easy movement around the bike when the terrain gets technical.

Although it’s not as hard-wearing as some, the main fabric is lightweight, very breathable and dries really fast, while discreet mesh panels on the inside of the legs and around the back work well to stop the atmosphere getting too tropical on the climbs.

You get plenty of scope for tweaking the fit via the Velcro waist adjusters and enough space for storing all your ride bits and pieces in three zipped pockets, one of which comes with an sunglasses wipe inside – a neat touch.

The detachable liner is also good quality. Made of open mesh with flat seams that avoid any rubbing and silicone grippers that stop the legs creeping northwards, it allows a healthy dose of air in and moisture out and dries quickly when you do start steaming up.

The seat pad is well contoured with cushioning where you need it most – it’s a generous 14mm deep under your sit bones – while loads of channels improve the airflow and keep the bulk down to a reasonable level. Strong and well featured shorts at a bargain price.
