Swobo's Baggy Shorts & Liner combo is a good alternative to Lycra for the dirt crowd, reflecting a growing segment of cyclists looking for clothing to fit their personalities.
Simplicity and durability are key with technical clothing. Swobo has done well with its entry into the highly competitive nylon realm, and I'm reconsidering my wardrobe choices when hitting the trails. The technical liner could be a tad longer to prevent chafing, but overall the performance has lived up to Swobo head honch Tim Parr's promises. Multiple rides and washings haven't affected the performance or aesthetics either.
The market is crowded with flash MTB shorts, and most are too heavy-duty for most cross-country riding. The Swobo Baggy Shorts & Liner Combo offers comfort, protection and versatility: all welcome on hot days in the saddle.
Tim Parr's tenure at Patagonia is reflected in the Baggy Shorts & Liner Combo. Swobo's four-way stretch woven fabric is light. There's none of the overly stiff "speed demon North Shore" crackling when pedaling, something that can be really annoying when climbing for miles along the silent trail. The adjustable integrated belt is a nice touch, complimenting the simple waist snap and Velcro fly closure. The single pocket on the right leg works well, but was most handy after riding, somewhere to carry my car keys, a phone, and maybe some cash.

I've always found mountain bike shorts to be bothersome, so I've been a stalwart Lycra man on the road as well as the dirt. Trouble was, I never found a pair of baggies that didn't chafe my thighs or get caught on my saddle on steep descents. I like clothing that inspires confidence, technically speaking, so it was with a bit of excitement and hesitancy that I tested a pair of baggies from Swobo.
It didn't take long, however, to get into the groove. Swobo's inside liner is cut like familiar cotton boxer shorts, designed with a nice Italian chamois for extra padding and comfort. I especially liked the simple suspender straps sewn into the baggy shorts, supporting the liner and keeping everything in place. Most of my test rides were hot and heavy with climbing, something I'm used to on my road bike.
