Altura Stream tights
BikeRadar verdict
"Warm, well cut tights at a decent price"
For a fiver extra these Altura tights are available with a padded insert, but if you always wear tights over cycling shorts (which reduces wash frequency and drying time) you don't need it.
The seat here has a double layer of fabric to reinforce it, and that also adds a bit of warmth too. The stretch fabric is fleece-backed and snug, with the eight-panel design giving a good, close fit. Despite the 'made in Italy' tag, sizing feels British; the M was medium not small. The ankles have silicone grippers like shorts legs and they don't ride up. The waist is elasticated and has a drawcord, and it's nice and high, so you don't end up getting a cold lower back – although warmth isn't quite as good above the hips as it is with bib tights. Pit stops are easier, though!
There's a reflective logo on the thigh and reflective piping on the calves. Three-quarter length tights are cooler, but in more than just looks – and when it's really cold you'll appreciate having warm shins in these. My benchmark for value (often neglected!) and performance is Lusso; these tights are in the same league.
